What a Friday demo looks like

Thirty minutes, a staging link, and nothing we'd be embarrassed to show. Here's the format.

"Transparent process" is on every studio's website, including ours. It's cheap to write. The expensive version is a recurring calendar invite you can't move: Friday, thirty minutes, every week of the build.

The rules

  • It's on a device, not in Figma. If it only works in a design file, it isn't done.
  • You drive. We send the staging link on Thursday night; on Friday you open it and we watch where you tap.
  • We show what broke. If a feature slipped, you hear it from us on Friday, not from the invoice.
  • No slides.

The thirty minutes

Five minutes of what changed since last week, in plain language. Fifteen minutes of you using it while we stay quiet and take notes. Ten minutes deciding what next week's goal is. One goal. We write it down in the chat before the call ends.

What it does to the project

The demo isn't for you, mostly. It's for us. Knowing that a real person will tap through the build on Friday afternoon changes how Tuesday is spent. Half-finished screens don't get merged. "We'll fix it later" gets fixed now, because later is in four days and it has a witness.

It also kills the biggest risk in outsourced product work: the silent month. The one where everything is "on track" and then it isn't. You can't have a silent month when you've used the app four times in it.

When there's nothing to show

It happens. Some weeks are plumbing: auth, payments, a migration. We demo the plumbing. A payment going through on a test card is a demo. A crash report that no longer appears is a demo. The point isn't spectacle. It's that you never go a week without seeing the product move.

The demo is the project's heartbeat. If you can't hear it, something is wrong.

After launch the Friday slot doesn't disappear. It becomes the place where we look at real numbers together and decide what to build next. Same time, same rules, with users in the room now, in the form of analytics.

Fingersnap Labs

Written by the studio, from what we do every week. If something here doesn't match your experience, write to us. We'd rather update the note than defend it.

Your next product could be one snap away.

Tell us what you're building. We'll reply with how we'd approach it.
